Coconut oil and flower hair oil treatment:

You will need:

  • 1/2 cup coconut oil
  • 1/2 cup fresh flower petals

Directions:

  1. Bring the 1/2 cup of coconut oil to a boil in a small pan

Pineapple Foot Rub

This one is easy as pie:

  • Take 1 cup of fresh pineapple and puree in a food processor
  • Take the pineapple mixture and spread and rub all over feet including your heels and around your nails (you may feel a tingle)
  • After 10 minutes rinse off with warm water and pat dry

Mila’s Room

11 Jun

So my little bundle of joy is due to arrive this September, and I have not been able to quit making/buying things for her and her room!  I painted the walls an aqua blue green color, revamped an old and ugly brown dresser into a beautiful white one with new hardware, and decorated the room with hot pink, orange, and white colors.  It is a work in progress, still have more to do!  I was thinking of creating a unique design above her crib rather than the cliché letters that spell out her name…there’s also some more furniture to be added, and then the whole room tidied up.  What do you think so far?

Since it’s been raining so much around here lately I figured it would be nice to see the sun come out and catch a few rainbows…Here’s some rainbow inspired nail art that I would like to try out:

Studded Nails

29 May

Here’s a trend that I absolutely love and adds an extra oomph to any set of nails…Studs!

You can find them in beauty stores, nail salons, drug stores, on line, and many other places.  They are inexpensive and are easily applied with nail art glue.

These studded nails caught my eye:

What do you think? Would you try these out?

Make your own lotion from coconut oil!

If you’ve read my post on coconut oil then you already know all of the benefits it brings…but making your own lotion from it is one of my favorites!  It lasts longer than store bought lotions and is really good for your skin!  You don’t need much to make the lotion, you probably have some of these things in your kitchen already.

You will need:

  • 1/2 cup  olive oil (or almond oil)
  • 1/4 cup coconut oil
  • 1/4 cup beeswax
  •  1 teaspoon Vitamin E oil

You can also add essential oils if you would like!

All you have to do is:

  • mix the ingredients into a glass jar (any kind will do as long as it’s big enough to contain the ingredients)
  • heat a couple inches of water in a sauce pan (enough to submerge the bottom bit of the jar)
  • place the jar in the hot water and watch the ingredients melt, shaking around occasionally
  • pour into small jar or container of your choice and put on lid and you’re done!

Penny Pincher: DIY Beach Sea Salt Spray for Hair

22 Mar

Image

Love the look of beachy waves in your hair?  While it may not yet be Summer, you can still obtain the look by using Sea Salt spray…and I’ve got a DIY version that works just as good as the kind you can buy in the store. Just a few simple ingredients which you may already have at home:

  • Plastic spray bottle
  • Sea salt
  • Coconut oil (or even olive oil will do)
  • 8-16 oz water depending on the size of your bottle
  • Yummy smelling essential oil (if you want to add a nice scent along with the coconut)

Just mix the water, essential oil, coconut oil (no more than 1 tbsp per 8oz), and the sea salt (more salt=more texture) in the plastic bottle. Shake it up until the oil mixes well.
Now you’re ready to go! Just spray onto damp hair and scrunch with your fingers to get nice, natural, beachy waves!

Penny Pincher: DIY Deep Conditioning Hair Treatment

14 Mar

Image

Ever have a deep conditioning treatment done at a salon?  I used to get one every time I visited for a shampoo and haircut.  Always left my hair feeling silky smooth, but also left my pocket pretty empty..and considering my hair is super long, it was always an extra charge.  So I started looking for recipes  for deep conditioning treatments…and found and awesome one that they use at The Broot (which is a hair treatment bar that uses organic products instead of chemicals.)  The treatment there is about $35 a pop if I’m not mistaken.  Well, you can make your own version at home with a few simple natural products!

Here’s what you need:

  • 1/4 cup mayonaise
  • 1/2 an avacado
  • 2 oz water
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil

Just mix these ingredients and apply to your hair…leave on for 20 minutes or so…shampoo and rinse and you’re done! Beautiful, hydrated hair!

Enjoy!
